UOW Southern Highlands has built strong local connections providing students with opportunities to become active in the community, gain work experience and increase prospects for local employment. For example in 2015:
• five students undertook internships as part of their UOW degree with Wingecarribee Shire Council;
• UOW and the Moss Vale and Rural Chamber of Commerce conducted an industry tour with High School Careers Advisers to discuss employment opportunities with local businesses including Boral, DUX, Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Harbison Care, Harper-Collins, Hume Coal and Peppers Sutton Forest.

provides outreach activities to School in the region – programs ranging from Primary through all years in High School, including the following programs conducted on the Southern Highlands campus:
• University Preparation Program conducted on campus during School terms 2 and 3
• Summer Master Class each on cam
More than 800 students from the Southern Highlands participated in In2Uni activities in 2015.
